SUMMARY:Expressionist Style Portrait Oil Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Class Description:\nJoin us for a fun 3-hour oil painting class with teachers Lynn Stewart of Altoona and Keppy Arnoldsen of Huntingdon. \nWhat is Expressionism? \nExpressionism began in the early 20th century and was a reaction to the changing world for artists.  They wanted to depart from past standard techniques and styles.  This new process allowed the artists to communicate their inner thoughts\, emotions\, ideas\, and personal experiences through their art. \nInstead of just copying the real physical world\, Expressionism focuses on capturing feelings and psychological states.  The expressionist artist used strong\, intense colors\, distorted forms\, and exaggerated lines to represent the emotions and perspective of the artist. \nIn this workshop\, the student will create a portrait painting (can be of a human\, animal\, or even an alien!) using the methods that the Expressionists used: bright colors and emotional feelings.  Bring a photo\, sketch\, or clipping of something for inspiration. This should be an easy and fun project.  Come join us for our creative gathering. \nA canvas will be supplied and is included in the cost\, as well as a small jar of Terpenoid to clean your brushes and a little bit of Liquin to hasten the drying of your applied paint. \nThe student will need to bring oil paints (the three primary colors and white will work) and brushes. If you need help with the oil paints or other supplies\, please contact Keppy Arnoldsen\, 814-777-6896. We are willing to share. \nThe total cost for the class is $45 for members and $50 for nonmembers. \n\n\n\nTo register\, click this link.

SUMMARY:A Christmas Carol
DESCRIPTION:The story follows Ebenezer Scrooge\, a bitter and miserly old man who views Christmas as a humbug and disdains the plight of the poor. On Christmas Eve\, he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner\, Jacob Marley\, who warns him to change his ways or face eternal torment. Scrooge is then led on a supernatural journey by the Ghosts of Christmas Past\, Present\, and Yet to Come\, who reveal the joy he has lost and the dark future that awaits him. \nAfter witnessing the impact of his cruelty\, Scrooge awakens with a transformed heart\, dedicated to honoring the spirit of Christmas through generosity and kindness. This timeless tale remains the definitive story of redemption and the importance of human connection. “A Christmas Carol” runs November 20-22 and November 27-29.

SUMMARY:Serving 20 Years of Empty Bowls
DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Empty Bowls project at Juniata College! This annual fundraiser hosted by faculty\, staff\, and students of Juniata College raises money for four Huntingdon County food banks and pantries as well as the Huntingdon County Area Elementary School Backpack Programs. Since its inception\, the event has raised nearly $100\,000 for these organizations and benefited countless Huntingdon County residents who are food insecure. 100% of the funds raised through bowl sales are donated back to Huntingdon County. \nStudents\, faculty\, and friends of Juniata create and donate 400 ceramic bowls in support of online and in-person sales. The exhibition is presented in two gallery spaces. One gallery exhibits a selection of bowls for in-person purchase; the other gallery challenges your knowledge about local food insecurity issues and engages your creativity to identify community-based solutions. \nThe exhibit is free. \nOpen:\nMon – Thu 2 pm – 7 pm\nSat 12 pm – 4 pm\nClosed Fridays\, Sundays\, and campus holidays.
