Class Description:
Join us for a fun 3-hour oil painting class with teachers Lynn Stewart of Altoona and Keppy Arnoldsen of Huntingdon.
What is Expressionism?
Expressionism began in the early 20th century and was a reaction to the changing world for artists. They wanted to depart from past standard techniques and styles. This new process allowed the artists to communicate their
Instead of just copying the real physical world, Expressionism focuses on capturing feelings and psychological states. The expressionist artist used strong, intense colors, distorted forms, and exaggerated lines to represent the emotions and perspective of the artist.
In this workshop, the student will create a portrait painting (can be of a human, animal, or even an alien!) using the methods that the Expressionists used: bright colors and emotional feelings. Bring a photo, sketch, or clipping of something for inspiration. This should be an easy and fun project. Come join us for our creative gathering.
A canvas will be supplied and is included in the cost, as well as a small jar of Terpenoid to clean your brushes and a little bit of Liquin to hasten the drying of your applied paint.
The student will need to bring oil paints (the three primary colors and white will work) and brushes. If you need help with the oil paints or other supplies, please contact Keppy Arnoldsen, 814-777-6896. We are willing to share.
The total cost for the class is $45 for members and $50 for nonmembers.
